GeoGreen » Air Quality & Emissions

The inks, wetting agents and cleaning solvents used in the printing process have a serious impact on the air we breathe – both in our plant and in the surrounding community. We continually monitor out output and have received our Air Permit from the Environmental Protection Division of the Georgia Dept. of Natural Resources. We are pleased that we are consistently above government standards for Air Quality.

Additionally, to combat emissions further, we have installed afterburners, as pollution control devices, on all of our web presses to capture fugitive emissions. We have achieved a 99% destruction factor on these pollutants. In the process, we have recovered enough energy from the heat to operate the afterburners with no additional fossil fuel required.

We have recently installed a state-of-the-art UV printing press that uses ink with almost zero VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds, the type of emissions that causes smog).

Other Air Quality initiatives include the elimination of alcohol dampening systems, our switch to water-based varnishes and the adoption of detergent-based plate developers. And we are committed to continually test less volatile solvents when they become available.
