Geographics Earns Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certification

Geographics is pleased to announce that it has successfully completed the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody certification by SmartWood, a Program of the Rainforest Alliance and is now entitled to the use of the FSC trademarks, guaranteeing that the source of the material in our products, bearing the FSC logo or identified on our invoice, originates from a certified forest.

Norvin Hagan, Geographics’ President and CEO, said, “We are very proud of this certification and we will be equally proud to display the FSC trademark on our products for those customers requesting FSC-certified products. In keeping with the tradition and commitment to responsible forest management and good business, we felt that offering this certification was the right thing to do!”

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forests. The FSC Logo identifies products which contain wood from well managed forests certified in accordance with the rules of the Forest Stewardship Council. The FSC Chain of Custody system connects responsible forest management practices with consumers by providing a consistent, international basis for claims about the sourcing of material and products.

Said Ron Lanio, Executive Vice-President, on the receipt of Geographics’ certification, “As environmental, social and economic concerns become increasingly important to our customers, our ability to affix the FSC label on our printing products represents a promise that is being made to them. Chain of custody standards are the mechanism that the FSC has developed to ensure that “promise” is delivered.”

Chain-of-custody is the path taken by raw materials from the forest to the consumer, including all successive stages of processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution. The certification provides a guarantee about the production of FSC-certified products.

Geographics’ print operations have now been independently verified for the FSC chain of custody certification and is eligible to label their products with the FSC logo.
